RAYA AT MAMAK 'S HOUSE

This is the'Mamak' that I was talking about in my last post...His name actually is 'Farouke' but all the girls in the clinic calls him 'Mamak' He comes from India and is an Indian Muslim.. He really is very patriotic...he goes back to Inida neary every year. Even his son's wife is 'imported' from India...Yeh 'matched-make' In this age there is still such thing... Oh his son is a hand-some guy not those 'dongoy' but 'obedience' is the word!!
(Should have taken a photo of him to prove to my 'little ones'.. I suppose the rest of his children will have to follow this tradition....we'll wait and see.

This is MAMAK'S neighbour's house..see the orange coloured block of cement with steps @ the side in front of the door?? Well this is to block the flood water from entering the house when the sky 'pours' but that Raya when we were there the water still runs into the house...not high enough...see how high the water level was?? CAN YOU immagine the amount of mud that got in and how to'flush' it out after the water recedes? That's why Mamak did not built this blockage but use some wooden plank but the plank was not put up in time so the water came in .
This is Mamak's house without the cement block~
By the way this is Azlan (our driver) and his family...they happen to stay next door..It was Mamak who introduce him to work with us.
Typical 'Raya' makan rice with chili chili chili (don't think Joel can take this...not bad .. no change every year is the same...Incidently all the girls...yeh all of them had diarrhoea the next day....EXCEPT DADDY AND MUMSIE!!!! (Either we have very strong
guts or we were the only ones that didn't eat most of the 'goodies' that were being sent to the ward by the other staff that day...(usually the Muslim girls who are on duty will bring some food to share with the nurses that were on duty that day)

Azlan and daughter and one of our staff's son..See they are all in their 'Sunday' best baju. See the nice carpet ..only laid out on this special day..clean floors ect.Lucky thing that day.. mamak's wife grap all our shoes and put them into a box if not they will become little boats ... and float or sink away.. because of this they were late in putting up the
'defence plank of wood at the door..I suppose when the sky was dark they were too embarrased to do anything until the very last minute when they couldn't put it off any more!
So this year we did not have to 'witness' the embarassment of the flood.. in Mamak's house..I wonder how they felt that day...Mumsie felt terrible for them...especially Mamak and his wife were drenched from head to foot!! The carpet and curtains were rolled up. CAN YOU IMMAGINE STAYING IN SUCH A HOUSE...each time when the rain comes. it's hard work!
I think mumsie's little ones will NEVER WANT TO COME HOME if this was to happen in our place.
